National Society of Arts and Letters
Two of Becca’s National Awards come from the National Society of Arts and Letters, an organization that holds annual competitions in five artistic disciplines with generous cash prizes for the furthering of young artists’ beginning careers. The National competitors are each the first place winner from the NSAL individual Chapter competitions. Becca represented the Clearwater / Tampa Bay Chapter in 1999 in Drama, and again in 2004 in Musical Theatre. The National Musical Theatre competition was judged by Karen Azenberg, Vice President of SSDC; Mark S. Hoebee of Paper Mill Playhouse; Jane Alderman, Casting Director; and composer Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Seussical). Becca placed 3rd, receiving a cash prize and the opportunity to apply for career grants in the future. Past NSAL winners include opera singer Jessye Norman, playwright Timothy Mason, actress Shirley MacLaine, and Chicago actors Dale Benson and Michael Lindner.
